How much does an office move cost?
A small office of up to about ten desks typically costs £800–£3,500 to move. Larger moves often pass £5,000, and a 50-plus-desk office or a whole floor can reach £10,000 or more. Most office movers give a fixed price after a survey, not an hourly rate.

Why no medium-office figure? The guides measure differently — some by desks, some by floor area — and their mid-size bands don't agree. Rather than invent a middle, we'd send you to a survey. For a sense of what moving the people costs at home, our removal costs calculator covers house moves.
A survey turns these ranges into fixed prices. Compare office movers for free, with no obligation.
What changes the cost of an office removal?
Five things move the number. None of them is the postcode.
Desks and volume
More desks mean more crates, more crew and more vehicles. Archives and storage rooms count too — a basement of files can outweigh the open-plan floor.
Access at both buildings
A goods lift and a loading bay save hours. Stairs, a shared passenger lift or a street with no loading space add them. The managing agent at each building may also set rules on hours, lift bookings and insurance.
IT and specialist kit
Disconnecting, packing and reconnecting computers, screens and servers is skilled work and is priced as such. Confirm whether your IT provider or the removal firm is doing it.
Timing
Evenings and weekends cost more per hour, because crews are paid more for them. Against a lost working day, that premium is usually the cheaper choice.
Distance
Across town, the day is spent loading. Across the country, driver hours and an overnight join the bill.
What costs sit outside the removal quote?
The removal is often the smaller part of moving premises. Published 2026 guides put a building survey at roughly £700–£5,000, solicitor's fees for the lease at about £2,000–£10,000, and dilapidations — putting the old space back as the lease requires — at around £5–£30 per square foot.

Budget for those separately. A cheap removal quote does nothing to soften a dilapidations bill.

How do you keep office removal costs down?
- Clear out first. Shred, recycle and dispose before the survey, so you aren't paying to move what you'll bin.
- Give staff crates and a deadline.Self-packed desks cut crew hours; label every crate with a desk number.
- Book both buildings early. Lifts, loading bays and building hours, confirmed in writing.
- Plan 2–3 months ahead. Rushed moves take whatever crew and date are left.
- Compare itemised quotes. Same scope, side by side. Our office removals page covers what a good office mover includes.
One accreditation is worth asking about. The British Association of Removers' Workplace Relocation Group is its commercial arm, and its members hold BS 8522, the British Standard for commercial moving. Retail units and warehouses are covered on our commercial removals page.
Office removal costs: FAQs
How much does an office move cost?
A small office of up to about ten desks typically costs £800–£3,500 to move, based on published 2026 guides. Larger moves often pass £5,000, and a 50-plus-desk office or a whole floor can reach £10,000 or more. A survey gives you the real figure.
Do office removal companies charge by the desk or by the hour?
Most give a fixed price after a survey rather than an hourly rate. Some describe the job per desk or workstation, but no reliable per-desk price is published, so treat any figure you see online as a starting point and compare surveyed quotes.
Is it cheaper to move an office at the weekend?
The removal usually costs more, because out-of-hours crews are paid more. The business is often cheaper overall, though, because nobody stops working. Price both and compare the premium with a lost working day.
How far ahead should we book an office removal?
Start planning at least 2–3 months ahead. The survey, IT plan, building bookings and staff briefing all need time, and good crews book up for Friday nights and month-ends.
What should be in an office removal quote?
The crew size, vehicles, hours, crate hire, IT disconnection and reconnection, furniture dismantling, insurance and any out-of-hours premium — each itemised. A quote that lists none of these is a guess, not a price.
