Office relocation without the downtime
Planning an office move — ten desks or two hundred? You're in the right place. Compare quotes from commercial removal companies that handle office relocation end to end: crates delivered Thursday, everything moved over the weekend, desks and screens working by Monday morning. Free, and it takes about two minutes.
What's included
What's included in an office move
Most commercial quotes cover all of this — check yours does before comparing on price alone.
- Lockable crates delivered ahead of move day, packed by the crew or your team.
- Desks and meeting tables dismantled, moved and rebuilt to your floor plan.
- Monitors, docks and servers disconnected, labelled and reconnected at the other end.
- Evening and weekend crews as standard, so the business doesn't stop.
- Short-term storage for furniture and archives if the new office isn't ready.
- Old furniture recycled or disposed of properly — WEEE rules covered for electricals.

Plan it properly
Your office move timeline
The office moves that go wrong are the ones planned in a fortnight. Work backwards from moving day.
8 weeks out
Get quotes and book the company. Give notice on your current space, and book lifts and loading bays with both buildings' management.
4 weeks out
Agree the floor plan, order crates, and tell your internet provider — new-office connectivity has the longest lead time of anything on this list.
1 week out
Label everything: desks, chairs, crates, cables. Confirm access times and parking suspensions, and brief staff on what to pack.
We'll publish a full office move checklist in our moving guides soon.
When to move
Out-of-hours office removals
Most office moves run Friday 6pm to Monday 8am, so the business never visibly stops. Weekend crews cost more per hour. But compare that premium with paying a team to sit idle on a Tuesday while their desks are in a van — that's the arithmetic of business relocation, and it's why weekend office moves are usually cheaper overall.
If you can be flexible, some commercial removals firms offer better rates for midweek evening work — worth asking when the quotes come in.
The delicate bit
IT, servers and equipment
Ask how a company handles IT relocation before you book, not after. A good crew disconnects and labels every cable, moves screens in padded crates and servers in anti-static packaging, then reconnects to your seating plan — so Monday morning is log-in, not untangle.
Check insurance while you're at it: ask what public liability limit the firm carries — your building's managing agent may specify a minimum — and make sure goods-in-transit cover at least matches the value of your kit.
Moving more than desks and IT — stock, racking, machinery or a whole premises? That's commercial removals, and it gets quoted differently.
Choosing well
How to choose an office relocation company
Choose an office relocation company with commercial accreditation — BAR's Workplace Relocation Group (formerly the Commercial Moving Group), whose members hold BS 8522, the British Standard for commercial moving — plus insurance that covers your equipment's real value, and references from moves of a similar size. Ask for a site survey and a named move manager — if they won't do either, keep looking.
Price matters, but the cheapest quote that's never moved a server room is no bargain. Office relocation companies in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds all quote through Removly — compare them in one place.

Budgeting
What does an office move cost?
Most UK office moves are quoted per desk or workstation, but the rate isn't a figure you can publish — it's set by a site survey. What moves it: IT and server complexity, lift and loading-bay access, and whether the move has to run out of hours. Expect a walkthrough before any number.
- Up to 10 desks
- quoted per workstation, after a survey
- 10–50 desks
- quoted per workstation, after a survey
- 50+ desks
- quoted after a site survey

Good to know
Office removals FAQs
How much does an office move cost per desk?
Office moves are commonly quoted per desk or workstation, but there is no published per-desk rate — expect a site survey. What sets it: crate and IT-disconnection scope, server complexity, lift and access, and out-of-hours working. Get quotes for your actual office rather than budgeting on an average.
How long does an office move take?
A 10–20 desk office usually moves over a single weekend: crates packed Friday, transported Saturday, rebuilt and reconnected Sunday. Larger offices are often phased over two weekends, floor by floor, so no team is ever offline.
Can we move at the weekend or overnight?
Yes — most commercial moves happen exactly then, typically Friday evening to Monday morning. Out-of-hours crews carry a modest premium, but it's almost always less than the cost of closing for a working day.
Who handles the IT equipment?
The removal crew handles physical disconnection, labelling, safe transport and reconnection to your floor plan. Network configuration stays with your IT team or provider — book them for the Monday morning, not the Friday night.
How much notice do office removal companies need?
Four to eight weeks is comfortable for most office sizes. Under two weeks is possible for small offices but limits your choice of firms and dates. Book earlier if you need a month-end weekend — demand peaks then.
