How much do removals to Dubai cost?

A 3-bed house in a 20ft container typically costs £4,400–£9,500 to move from the UK to Dubai, door to door. A 4-bed or larger move in a 40ft container starts from about £6,400. Those ranges come from UK movers' published 2026 price lists.

Smaller moves are harder to pin down. Shared-container and few-boxes prices vary widely between firms, so we won't publish a single figure — a video survey turns your load into a fixed price. What moves the number: volume first, then sole container versus shared, packing, and insurance.

Sea freight or air freight to Dubai?

Most households go by sea. A full container takes about 5–7 weeks and lands at Jebel Ali, the main port for household shipments into Dubai. Your own container buys a fixed sailing; a shared one waits to fill and costs less.

Air freight takes about 5–10 days. It is far dearer per box, so it suits the essentials you need on arrival — work clothes, a few kitchen things, children's favourites — while the container follows.

Everything in the container should be export-wrapped. Weeks at sea and heat at the far end are hard on furniture packed for a local move.

Do you pay duty on household goods in Dubai?

Not on used ones, if you are moving to live there for the first time. Dubai Customs exempts used household goods and personal effects, provided they are shipped in your name, in quantities that fit one home, with proof of work and residence.

  • A copy of your passport
  • A copy of your UAE residency visa
  • A full packing list of the goods

New items are not covered, and anything that looks like commercial quantities can be charged duty. Shipments are inspected before release. Because the visa is part of the paperwork, time the container around it — not the other way round.

What can't you take to Dubai?

Some things are banned outright. Dubai Customs lists narcotics, gambling equipment and anything contrary to Islamic faith or public morals, and GOV.UK adds pork products, pornography and products containing CBD.

Others need approval first: alcohol, medicines, weapons and fireworks, and e-cigarettes. Controlled medicines must be approved before you arrive. Ask your mover for their restricted-items list and keep anything doubtful out of the container.

How do you choose a removal company for Dubai?

Ask who handles the Dubai end. A UK firm ships the container; an agent in Dubai clears it and delivers. FIDI's FAIM is the independently audited quality standard in international moving. BAR Overseas and IAM membership show the firm works in the field, but they are not the same audit.

Then compare like for like: container size, door to door or port to port, packing, insurance and the Dubai-side charges. Our international removals page covers the questions to ask, removals to Australia covers the other big long-haul route, and if your dates don't line up, UK storage can hold things until the visa arrives.

Do I pay customs duty on my furniture in Dubai?

Not on used household goods, if you are moving to Dubai to live for the first time. Dubai Customs exempts used personal effects shipped in your name, in household quantities, with proof of work and residence. New items are not exempt.

What documents do I need to clear my goods in Dubai?

A copy of your passport, a copy of your UAE residency visa and a full packing list, according to Dubai Customs. Some movers also ask for your Emirates ID. Your removal company prepares the declaration with you.

Can I take my medicines to Dubai?

Some, but check first. Medicines are restricted in the UAE, and controlled medicines need approval before you arrive, according to GOV.UK. Products containing CBD are illegal. Pack prescriptions with paperwork, and never in the container without checking.
