What Leicester books

What do removal companies in Leicester handle?

House removals in Leicester's terraces

Highfields, Clarendon Park and the West End off Narborough Road are Victorian terraced streets with on-street parking. For house removals here, the question is where the van stops. Say on the form if there are yellow lines or a permit zone outside.

Terraces are Leicester's signature: 29% of households lived in one at the 2021 Census. Much of Clarendon Park Road is in residents' permit Zone K, and Gotham Street in Highfields is Zone E. Permits are digital through MiPermit.

Stoneygate and Knighton villas

South-east of the centre the houses get bigger. Victorian villas on roads like Knighton Park Road often have cellars and full lofts. A packing day before the move can be cheaper than a longer moving day — our packing service page explains how that is priced.

Pianos, furniture and storage

Moving an upright piano out of a Clarendon Park front room, or a wardrobe down a Belgrave stairwell? Name the item and the floor on the form. Companies that offer piano removals or furniture-only moves can then price the carry. If you need a gap between selling and buying, removals and storage can go on the same quote.

Man with a van in Leicester

Leaving a shared house near De Montfort, or taking a sofa from Aylestone to Evington? A smaller job doesn't need a full crew. An hourly man and van is usually the better-value booking, and the same form asks for it.

Office moves and long-distance removals

Moving a shop or office? Ask for office removals quotes and say whether it has to happen out of hours. The M1 runs past the city's western edge, so moves to London or the North are quoted as long distance removals, with the road time built in.

Clearances

Probate and rental turnovers go to house clearance firms through the same form. Ask each one for its waste carrier licence.

The local reality

How do you sort parking for a Leicester move?

We couldn't find a published service for suspending a parking bay for a house move on the Leicester City Council website. The parking pages cover resident, visitor, business, contractor and maintenance permits, all digital through MiPermit.

  • A visitor and maintenance permit costs £2 for 24 hours, as of November 2026.
  • An annual visitor permit is £40 and a resident permit £35.
  • The page doesn't name removals. Email the parking permits team to ask whether a visitor permit covers your van.

Diwali Day is the other date to check. In 2025 Belgrave Road and its side-street junctions closed to all traffic from 5pm to about 9.30pm, with extra parking restrictions nearby. A van booked into the Golden Mile that evening won't get in.

There's no clean air zone charge in Leicester. The council said in November 2021 that its charging plans were no longer needed, as air quality had improved. Any quote that adds an emissions fee for the city centre deserves a question.

What it costs

Removal costs in Leicester

Moving in Leicester: FAQs

Can I reserve parking for a removal van in Leicester?

We couldn't find a removal bay suspension service published on the Leicester City Council website. In a permit zone, a resident can buy a visitor and maintenance permit through MiPermit for £2 for 24 hours, as of November 2026. The council doesn't say whether that covers a removal van, so ask its parking permits team before moving day.

Is there a clean air zone charge for vans in Leicester?

No. Leicester City Council said in November 2021 that its planned charging zone was no longer needed, because air quality had improved. Leicester is not on the government list of clean air zones, so no emissions fee belongs on your quote.

Can I move house on Belgrave Road during Diwali?

Avoid Diwali Day evening. In 2025 the council closed Belgrave Road and the junctions with its side streets to all traffic from 5pm to about 9.30pm, with local parking restrictions too. Check the council's news page for the date and times before you book a move near the Golden Mile.

Do removal companies covering Leicester also cover Oadby, Hinckley and Rutland?

Yes. The LE area runs well past the city: Oadby is LE2, Wigston LE18, Hinckley LE10, Loughborough LE11, Melton Mowbray LE13, Market Harborough LE16 and Oakham in Rutland LE15. Put both postcodes in the form and each quote covers the full journey.

How much do removals cost in Leicester?

Budget £600–£880 for a local 2-bed and £870–£1,300 for a 3-bed, based on published data from major UK comparison platforms (2025–26). Volume, access and distance move the price. A Stoneygate house with a cellar and loft holds more than its bedroom count suggests, so list everything.
