How does Thai customs treat household goods?
Used household goods in reasonable quantities enter duty-free when you take up residence. The catch is timing: they must arrive no earlier than one month before you do, and no later than six months after.
- Only one of each electrical appliance is duty-free — two for a family.
- Foreigners need a work permit or evidence from the Immigration Department.
- Expect to provide your passport, bill of lading, packing list and an exemption application.
Removal firms also advise shipping only goods you have owned for at least six months. Anything new is likely to attract duty.

What can't you bring into Thailand?
Vapes and e-cigarettes, with their refills and heat-not-burn devices, are illegal to own or use in Thailand, with fines and detention possible. Bringing in more than 200 cigarettes per person is also illegal.
Check medicines with the Thai authorities before you pack them, and ask your mover for its restricted-items list.

How is a move to Thailand shipped and priced?
Containers from the UK usually arrive at Laem Chabang, south-east of Bangkok, and travel on by road. A container of your own sails on a fixed date; a shared one is cheaper but waits to fill.
Published prices are quoted on different bases — some port to port, some door to door — so we won't publish one figure. Compare surveyed door-to-door quotes, and see our international removal costs page for routes where prices are verified. Because the arrival window is tight, UK storage can hold the shipment until your timing works.
Removals to Thailand: FAQs
When must my household goods arrive in Thailand?
Within a window: no earlier than one month before you arrive and no later than six months after. Goods outside that window lose the duty exemption, so time the shipment around your own arrival.
Can foreigners bring household goods into Thailand duty-free?
Yes, in reasonable quantities, if you are taking up residence. Foreigners need a work permit or evidence from the Immigration Department. Goods must be used, and only one of each electrical appliance is duty-free — two for a family.
Can I take a vape to Thailand?
No. Vapes, e-cigarettes, refills and heat-not-burn devices are illegal in Thailand, and penalties include confiscation, fines and detention. Leave them out of your luggage and your container.
Which port do removals to Thailand use?
Laem Chabang, south-east of Bangkok, is the main port for containers from the UK. Your mover arranges the road delivery from there.
How much does it cost to move to Thailand?
Published prices are quoted on different bases — some port to port, some door to door — so we do not publish a single figure. A survey of your volume gives a fixed price.
