Removal companies in Derry

The Foyle divides Derry in two, and there is exactly one road bridge between the halves. That single fact shapes how a cross-river move is planned and how long it takes. Compare removal companies in Derry who route around it rather than into it.

What Derry books

What removal companies in Derry cover

House removals across the city

Terraced and semi-detached housing through Creggan and the Cityside, estate housing across the Waterside at Clooney and Drumahoe, newer developments out toward Strathfoyle — standard house removals work, surveyed and fixed.

Man and van in Derry

A room, a one-bed, a single item across town. An hourly man and van team is the cheaper route, though a cross-river run adds time that a same-side one does not. Hourly rates are covered on the man and van Derry page.

House clearance in Derry

Steady end-of-tenancy and probate work. Licensed house clearance firms quote full or partial jobs from the same form — ask to see the waste carrier licence before anything leaves.

Moves to Great Britain

A sea crossing rather than a drive, and planned around sailings. The Belfast removal companies page sets out how the ferry routes work and what to ask about timing and cost.

The river

Two sides, one road bridge

The Foyle runs through the middle of Derry. Cityside is west, Waterside is east, and the postcodes follow: BT48 one side, BT47 the other. It is a useful shorthand when you are booking.

What matters on a removal day is that only one bridge carries vehicles. The Craigavon Bridge takes traffic; the Peace Bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists only. So every cross-river move, whatever the street addresses, funnels through the same crossing.

In practice that means timing rather than difficulty. A crew that knows the city avoids the bridge at the obvious hours and plans the load around it. One that treats a two-mile move as a two-mile move can lose half an hour sitting in the approach. Say which side each address is on and the quote will account for it.

Local knowledge

Moving in Derry: what to know

The walled city is the other access constraint. Derry has a complete circuit of seventeenth-century walls with gates through them, and the streets inside are narrow with restricted vehicle access in places. A full-size Luton is often the wrong vehicle for an address in there.

Outside the walls the city is straightforward. The Waterside estates and the newer housing toward Strathfoyle have driveways and turning space, and a van reaches the door without difficulty.

Giving the postcode rather than the area name saves confusion, particularly since BT covers the whole of Northern Ireland. BT47 and BT48 pin the city precisely, and the crews who work it will be the ones who reply.

What it costs

Removal costs in Derry

Nobody prices a move by city. The variables that matter are volume, the distance between addresses, and access at both ends. Published ranges by property size live in the removal costs guide, and the cost calculator turns your details into an estimate straight away.

Good to know

Moving in Derry: FAQs

How many bridges cross the Foyle in Derry?

One that takes vehicles. The Craigavon Bridge carries road traffic between Cityside and Waterside; the Peace Bridge is pedestrian and cycle only. Every cross-river removal goes over the Craigavon, so timing matters more than the distance suggests.

What do BT47 and BT48 mean?

They are the two halves of the city. BT47 is the Waterside, east of the Foyle; BT48 is the Cityside, west of it. Giving the postcode rather than an area name is the quickest way to tell a firm which side you are on.

Can a removal van get inside the city walls?

With the right vehicle. The streets within the walls are narrow with restricted access in places, so local crews bring something smaller than a full-size Luton. Say it is a walled-city address when you ask.

Do Derry firms cover Limavady, Strabane and Coleraine?

Many do, though BT covers the whole of Northern Ireland so coverage varies a great deal between operators. Ask which towns a firm actually works rather than trusting the letters, or give both full postcodes.

How much do removals cost in Derry?

Volume, access and distance set the price. Locally the main variables are the bridge crossing and whether either address is inside the walls. See the removal costs guide for UK ranges by property size.
