Removal companies in Middlesbrough and Teesside
Moving in Middlesbrough or anywhere on Teesside? Tight terraced streets sit on a grid round the centre, then the town loosens into Linthorpe's tree-lined avenues and the big estates south of the Tees. Compare removal companies covering Middlesbrough that price the street you're actually on.

What Teesside books
What do removal companies in Middlesbrough cover?
Home removals across Teesside
Brick terraces near the centre, semis and villas in Linthorpe and Acklam, family homes in Thornaby, Norton and Marske. That's everyday house removals work. Ask for a survey or a video call, so the price rests on what you actually own.
Man with a van in Middlesbrough
Moving a bedsit near the university, or collecting a sofa from Stockton? A man with a van charges by the hour, not by the house. On the narrow grid streets a smaller van can usually park nearer your door. Check the removal van costs page for hourly rates and van sizes.
Flat removals
Leaving a shared house or flat near Teesside University? For a flat removal, say which floor you're on and whether there's a lift. One van and two people often covers it.
House clearance in Middlesbrough
Emptying a parent's house in Acklam, or a rented terrace before you hand the keys back? House clearance is priced on volume and what can be reused or recycled. Make sure whoever takes the waste holds a waste carrier licence.
Long distance moves out of Teesside
The A19 runs north to Tyneside and south towards York, and the A66 links west to the A1. For a move further than a day's drive, compare long distance removals quotes so you see the full price up front.
Storage between homes
Chains break and completion dates slip. If yours does, ask for removals with storage in the same quote so you're not paying for two separate jobs.

A planned town
Grid terrace or Linthorpe avenue: two different jobs
Joseph Pease and his partners bought 527 acres of farmland in 1829 and laid the new town out on a grid. By the 1870s it was making a third of the country's pig iron, and the terraced streets went up fast to house the workers.
On a terrace, furniture comes straight out of the front door onto the pavement, so the carry is short. The question is space for the van. Tell each company whether cars line your street during the day, and they can choose the right size of vehicle.
Linthorpe is the other Middlesbrough. Built on farmland in the late 1800s and early 1900s, it has wide tree-lined avenues and bigger houses, and much of it is a conservation area. More rooms means more volume, so get an inventory-based price.
Across the Tees, Ingleby Barwick in TS17 was once said to be the largest private housing estate in Europe. Modern houses, driveways, cul-de-sacs: an easy load, but give the full postcode, because the estate is big enough for a crew to get lost.

Local knowledge
Moving in Middlesbrough: what to know
Can the removal van park outside your house?
If the kerb has yellow lines or a time limit, Middlesbrough Council sells a parking waiver. It lets a vehicle park as near as possible to the address. The council's published fee is £16 per vehicle per day, paid by debit or credit card. Call 01642 726003 to arrange it.
- Not allowed even with a waiver: loading restrictions while they apply (yellow kerb marks), bus stops, taxi ranks, school keep-clear markings and crossing zigzags.
- Obstruction: the van can't block the road or create a safety hazard, and must move if a civil enforcement officer or the police ask.
- Removals aren't named: the council describes waivers for works at nearby properties, so explain it's a house move when you call.
That's Middlesbrough Council only. Stockton, Redcar and Cleveland, and Hartlepool councils run their own parking, so check with the right one for the other end.

Removals in Stockton, Redcar, Hartlepool and across Teesside
Teesside is four council areas plus a slice of North Yorkshire. The postcode doesn't always tell you which council you're in.
- Middlesbrough Council — the town centre (TS1), east Middlesbrough (TS3), Linthorpe and Acklam (TS5), plus parts of TS7 and TS8 such as Nunthorpe and Hemlington.
- Stockton-on-Tees — Thornaby and Ingleby Barwick (TS17), Stockton and Norton (TS18–TS20), Billingham (TS22, TS23), Eaglescliffe (TS16) and Yarm (TS15).
- Redcar and Cleveland — Eston, Normanby and South Bank (TS6, despite the Middlesbrough address), Redcar (TS10), Marske (TS11), Saltburn (TS12) and Guisborough (TS14).
- Hartlepool — the town, the Headland and Seaton Carew (TS24–TS26).
- North Yorkshire — Stokesley and Great Ayton (TS9), with a Middlesbrough postal address.
Getting across the Tees
The Transporter Bridge has been shut since 2019 and its future is still undecided. Moves to Port Clarence or up to Hartlepool go round by road, which adds time you should allow for.
Is there a clean air zone on Teesside?
No. Middlesbrough isn't on the government's clean air zone list, so a removal van pays no emissions charge here. If you're heading up the A19, our Newcastle removals page explains the Tyneside zone.

What you will pay
Pricing a move in Middlesbrough
A removal price is mostly arithmetic: volume, mileage and how long it takes to get everything out of the door. For real UK ranges by property size, see the removal costs guide, and the cost calculator works out a figure from your own property size and distance.
Good to know
Moving in Middlesbrough: FAQs
Can a removal van park on yellow lines in Middlesbrough?
With a parking waiver from Middlesbrough Council, often yes. A waiver costs £16 per vehicle per day, paid by card — call the council on 01642 726003 to arrange one. It doesn't cover loading restrictions while they apply, bus stops, taxi ranks, school keep-clear markings or anywhere that blocks the road.
Do removal companies covering Middlesbrough also cover Stockton, Redcar and Hartlepool?
Yes. The TS postcode area runs from Hartlepool (TS24–TS26) through Stockton (TS18–TS20) and Billingham to Redcar (TS10), Guisborough (TS14) and Yarm (TS15). Put both postcodes in the form and each quote covers the full journey.
Is there a clean air zone charge for removal vans in Middlesbrough?
No. Middlesbrough isn't on the government's list of clean air zones, so no emissions charge belongs on a Teesside quote. The nearest zone is Newcastle and Gateshead's.
Is the Transporter Bridge open for crossing the Tees?
No. It has been closed since 2019 because of structural problems, and its future is still being decided. Moves between Middlesbrough and Port Clarence or Hartlepool go round by road, so allow for that when you plan the day.
How much do removals cost in Middlesbrough?
Volume, access and distance set the price, as anywhere. A two-up two-down terrace on the town-centre grid is a quicker job than a detached house of the same bedroom count with a long drive. See the removal costs guide for UK ranges.
