Borough by borough
Which parking rules apply to a West London move?
It depends which side of a borough line you're on, and the differences are big. Several councils share West London, and no two handle a removal van the same way.
Kensington and Chelsea: no suspension needed
The surprise comes from Kensington and Chelsea. The council's own advice says you don't have to suspend bays for a domestic or office removal.
The van can stop in any bay, or on a single yellow line, while loading carries on. If you'd rather have a space kept clear, a suspension is still on offer, with 10 working days' notice for residents' bays. For mansion blocks and mews, see removal companies in Kensington.

Ealing: apply early, pay less
Ealing names removal workers as a reason to suspend a bay. The minimum notice is 3 working days, at £51.90 per bay per day.
Apply 7 or more working days ahead and the same bay costs £40.45 a day. Fees as of October 2026; they change each April, so check with the council before you book.

Westminster, Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham
On the Westminster side of W2 and W9, the council names removal vans and wants 10 working days' notice. Hounslow also asks for 10 working days, and phones you with the charge rather than publishing it.
Hammersmith & Fulham wants at least 8 days, weekends included, at about £48 a bay per day — the detail is on our Fulham removals page.

Flats or houses
What kind of move is a West London move?
Inner west is flats. At the 2021 Census, 82.9% of Kensington and Chelsea households lived in a flat, and 75.3% in Hammersmith & Fulham. That means lifts, porters, stairs and shared hallways set the pace of the day.
Further out the mix evens up: Ealing is 49.5% flats and Hounslow 45.8%.
Either way, tell firms the floor, the lift and how far the van can get. Those details shape the quote.

UB and TW stretch well beyond the inner boroughs. For Hillingdon and the UB towns, see removals in Uxbridge; for Richmond and the TW side, see removals in Twickenham.
What you can book
What do removal companies covering West London offer?
Removals and storage in West London
Leaving a Shepherd's Bush flat a month before the Ealing house is ready? Ask each company to price the move and the storage together, so you compare one total. Say how many weeks, and whether you'll want any boxes back early.
Removals in Ealing
Ealing Council covers more than Ealing Broadway (W5). West Ealing (W13), Hanwell (W7), Southall (UB1, UB2), Northolt (UB5) and Greenford (UB6) all fall under it, so the cheaper early-application bay rate above applies there too. Acton (W3) is split between Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.
Man with a van in West London
One wardrobe from Chiswick to Acton, or a studio flat in Hanwell, doesn't need a full crew. A man and van charged by the hour usually costs less. Mention the floor and where the van can stop, because waiting time is on the clock.
House clearance and office moves
Emptying a family home in Hounslow before a sale? Ask for house clearance quotes, and check the firm is on the Environment Agency's register of waste carriers. For a Hammersmith or Chiswick office, ask for office removals and say whether the building has a goods lift.

Local knowledge
Match days, rugby days and the ULEZ
Brentford home games change the streets around the stadium. The surrounding roads are controlled parking zones, Lionel Road South closes to all but official vehicles, and the rules hold until an hour after the match.
Big events at Twickenham Stadium bring Hounslow's event-day zone into force, from 11am to 11pm when the crowd tops 60,000. If your date clashes with either fixture list, move it.

The ULEZ covers the whole of West London. A non-compliant van pays £12.50 a day, so check that any charge is in the quote rather than added later.

How much a West London move costs
Removal prices don't really split by city — they follow your volume, distance and access far more than your postcode. Real UK price bands by property size are in the removal costs guide, and the cost calculator estimates your own move without waiting for a callback.
Good to know
Moving in West London: FAQs
Do I need a parking suspension to move house in Kensington?
No. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea says you don't have to suspend bays for a domestic removal: the van can stop in any bay, or on a single yellow line, as long as loading carries on. A suspension is still available if you want a space kept clear.
How much notice does Ealing need to suspend a parking bay?
At least 3 working days, but it pays to go earlier. Apply 7 or more working days ahead and a bay costs £40.45 a day instead of £51.90 (October 2026).
Can I move house near Brentford's stadium on a match day?
You can, but it's the day to avoid. The streets around the stadium are controlled parking zones, Lionel Road South closes to all but official vehicles, and the restrictions run until an hour after the final whistle. See the club's fixture dates before you fix a date.
Which council handles parking for a move in Chiswick or Acton?
Chiswick (W4) is in Hounslow, with edges in Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham. Acton (W3) is split between Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow. Look up your street first: Ealing publishes its bay fees, while Hounslow phones you with the charge after you apply.
How much do removals in West London cost?
Across town, a 2-bed move tends to cost £600–£880 and a 3-bed £870–£1,300, based on published data from major UK comparison platforms (2025–26). In West London the extras are a bay suspension where the borough needs one, and the floor: a top-floor mansion flat takes longer than a house with a drive.
Do removal vans pay ULEZ in West London?
Only non-compliant ones. The ULEZ covers all of London, all day, every day; a van that misses Euro 4 petrol or Euro 6 diesel pays £12.50 a day. Ask the firm which van it's sending before you book.
